It’s finally here!

I feel like a kid in a candy store right now! Well, sort of. This week has been so. very. slow. But now, the time has come. Crash Bandicoot is back! If you haven’t played yet, and just wan’t to make up your own first impressions without reading about someone else’s, now is probably a good time to stop reading…

Because the first Crash Bandicoot game was one of the first games I ever owned, I decided to let the N.Sane trilogy be the first game I ever pre-ordered. I’ve now been playing for about an hour, and I can definitely say that the wait was worth it.

I started with the first game, and have made it to the 9th level. Already at Jungle Rollers (level 2), I started to have trouble getting through the whole level, and at level 3, The Great Gate, I was actually down to zero lives at one point – I’ll take that as a sign that no, I am in fact not too old for this sh*t.

Anyway, I really like how it all looks. I mean, as a kid, I never gave it any thought that “in 20 years, graphics are going to be so much better” (OK, now I feel old), but it is, and it just looks great.

Another thing I really like is this: As far as I can remember, you had one shot at the bonus rounds each time so that if you got the three required tokens, you’d be taken directly to the bonus round, and if you failed, you would have to re-enter the level in order to try again. I found that to be pretty frustrating at times, as I really suck at timing my jumps, so I’m glad to see that they changed that. There’s now a warp pad that you can jump on to get to the bonus round after getting the tokens, and if you fail, you just respawn next to it and have the possibility to try again.

I can’t wait to get further. I’m probably going to play through all three games before I go on a mission to get 100% – something I never actually managed to do back in the day.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go ride a hog.
