I’m feeling some serious lack of creativity these days. Add a little bit of writer’s block, and that’s where you’ll find me. So while I’m waiting for it all to loosen up, I’ll share my top 10 Christmas movies.
10. Jack Frost
I haven’t seen this one in a few years, but it is so sweet that I just had to include it. Actually, a strange combination of really sweet and really sad. It works, though!
9. Holiday in Handcuffs
Girl gets ditched by boyfriend right before Christmas. Girl has told parents boyfriend will come with her this year. Girl kidnaps guy to make him pretend to be boyfriend to avoid criticism. I know at least one more movie with almost the exact same plot, but I prefer this one.
8. 12 Dates of Christmas
I discovered this gem of a Christmas chick flick a few years back on Netflix. It’s perfect for when you just want to relax and watch something without having to think too much. And it has a few nice moments.
7. Jingle All the Way
This is a fun movie, and Arnold Schwarzenegger is great as the hopeless dad who ultimately does what he can to save the day. Arnold saying “It’s turbo time” is so perfect, it pretty much earned this movie a spot on this list.
6. How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Ah, the quest for bringing back Christmas. I’m all for it. Of course, almost everything starring Jim Carrey is great. And Taylor Momsen is so adorable!
I think that Buddy the Elf is just the perfect image of someone who is a bit overly enthusiastic about Christmas. Will Ferrell is as wonderful as he always is when playing this kind of manchild part, and Zooey Deschanel is pretty great as well.
4. Love Actually
Lots of great actors and actresses. Lots of great stories. Lots of romance. What’s not to love? Well, unless you dislike this kind of movie, nothing.
3. Miracle on 34th Street (1994)
This is so good! I don’t have much more to say about it, as I haven’t seen it many times like I have the rest of the movies on the list. Also, I have yet to see the 1947 original, but I definitely will sometime.
2. Home Alone/ Home Alone 2
I was never able to choose which one I like the most, so I just put the two together. While not very realistic (like those bandits wouldn’t be dead or at least hospitalized with serious injuries within the first five minutes of interacting with Kevin, right?) these movies are perfect. Great slapstick, and great Christmas feeling.
1. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
IMO, it doesn’t get any better than this. I watch this movie on December 23 every year. It’s absolutely hilarious, I always laugh so hard it hurts. I can honestly say that if I wouldn’t be able to see it one year, Christmas would be a little less great.
So, these are my favorites. What’s your number one?
