A trip down creepy game memory lane

Back in the day I almost only played fun and colorful platform games such as Rayman, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon. I would spend hour after hour trying to finish them, and had a great time doing so. I also played a few other kinds of games. Sports, racing, fighting, and whatever was on the demo disc from the latest Playstation magazine. I think the darkest I ever went was Medievil or some of the levels on Xena: Warrior Princess. Not exactly scary, but more so than what I usually played.

One day, I got a new PS1 game for my birthday. I was 11 or 12, not entirely sure. Which game? The survival horror game Martian Gothic: Unification. Of course I had to try it almost right away. I regretted it shortly after. It was the creepiest thing I had ever seen. Some of the things I saw in that game haunted me for months! Needless to say, I never got very far. After getting to the first floating dead guy a bunch of times and not surviving once, I decided it was time to give up. So I did, and never looked back. Probably for the best, I was just too young (I think the game was rated 17+).

I’ve been thinking about the game every now and then. I think I would handle it a lot better now. At least I hope so. If I should get the chance sometime, which I honestly doubt, I will try it again.

What is your creepiest game experience?
